Kevin Jenkins is pleased to announce the appointment of Katherine Mayberry as the new Head Coach of Scots' men's and women's cross country and track and field programs.
"Kathy is a proud Lyon alumna, who brings a deep passion for Scots athletics and a proven dedication to student-athlete success. Coach Mayberry has demonstrated outstanding leadership, a deep commitment to student-athlete development, and a passion for the sport," said Jenkins. "In this expanded role, she will oversee all aspects of training, recruitment, and academic success for our student-athletes, ensuring the continued growth and competitiveness of Lyon College Athletics. Her leadership will elevate our programs to new heights."
Mayberry's time as the Assistant Coach has been a successful one, with athletes being honored by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). Under her coaching the women's and men's cross country teams have had multiple athletes named SLIAC All-Conference Team members. This success has carried over to the men's and women's track and field programs, with 29 student athletes having been named SLIAC All-Conference Team members and an athlete being recognized as Men's Field Athlete of the Year. Under her guidance the program's have also had several student-athletes recognized as members of the SLIAC All-Academic Team.
"I'm super excited about my new position and can't wait to get started on this new journey! I've always dreamed to Coach here at Lyon College, because this is where I started my running career." said Mayberry. "I have gone full circle back to my starting point to lead and build something even bigger! I've always thought if it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you! I'm excited to be back in the Batesville community!"
Before Lyon, Mayberry worked in San Antonio Independent School District from 1987 to 2017 serving as the head coach for soccer, volleyball, track, cross country, and was the assistant basketball coach. Throughout her career she taught physical education and health in San Antonio as well in Floresville and Elaine Independent School Districts.
A native of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, Mayberry holds Bachelor's in Physical Education from Lyon College and a Master's in Education Administration from Concordia University in Austin, TX. She graduated from Batesville High School and was inducted into the Lyon College Hall of Fame in 2017.
