Outdoor Track and Field Championship Preview

This weekend starts a run of championships for the spring season in the SLIAC beginning with the 2025 SLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The event will be hosted by Greenville University and run Friday and Saturday. 

EVENT SCHEDULE

Greenville will look to keep its streak alive, having won the last seven men's championships and four consecutive women's championships.

The men's team boasts seven conference leaders this season in addition to having the top relay teams. Tyshawn Hamilton will race for the title of fastest men in the SLIAC, running a league best time of 10.80 seconds this spring. Joe Gomez is one of the top middle distance runners in the league, with conference best times this spring in both the 800 meters and 1500 meters. Gianni Estrada will attempt to continue his stranglehold on the 5000 meters, winning the last four gold medals. Dylan Collins has been impressive in his freshman season, with a league best 6'2" mark in the high jump while Cory Stoll will challenge for medals in both the 200 meters and long jump.

The Greenville women's program has 12 league leaders, headlined by reigning SLIAC Field Athlete of the Year, Talahiva Talanoa. Talanoa captured gold in the shot put, discus, and hammer last spring and will look to repeat that feat this year. She broke the conference record in both the discus and hammer this year and leads in all three events this spring. Jocelyn Fritz will show off her speed in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. The Panthers also boast leaders in the distance events while TyKiaza Jones will battle with teammate Kenzie Kurdys in the 100 hurdles. Kurdys will also look to defend her title in the pole vault after setting the conference record earlier this spring. The Panther jumpers group is led by Madison Kacevicius and Jazmyn Harmon.

The Blackburn College men's team will look to get points from Byron McNeil in the triple jump, who has a season best mark of 41'0.5". The women's team puts its hopes in Gracie Jent, who will compete in both the 800 meters and 1500 meters.

Eureka College finished 7th on the men's side year and 9th in the women's championship last year. Bailey Webster is one of the more experience middle distance runners in the league and will compete in four events including the 10,000 meters; where is the league leader this spring. The women's team is led by middle distance runners Rachel Fisher, Emily Baker, and Isabella Carbajal. 

Fontbonne University will look to capture the final medals in program history. Jacob Lorimier has a season best time of 2:09.37 in the 800 meters

Lyon College made a strong showing last year, placing 4th in the men and tying for 3rd in women. John Paul Morgan is the reigning Field Athlete of the Year and will attempt and ranks in the top two of the conference in the discus, hammer, and shot put. Emmanuel White will look for a medal in his first championship, holding the league's top time in the 400 hurdles. Brianna Krantz won gold in the 800 meters last spring and ranks 3rd this year in the conference. Olivia Letkey will also be looking to medal in the middle distance events while Samantha Love is one to watch in field events.

The MUW women's team took 2nd place last year with the men's team finishing 6th. The Owls' Cortland Earl and Allen Fields hold the league's top time in the 110 hurdles while Malachi Stafford heads up the list of jumpers. Noel Kellum has a chance for medals in the throwing events. Hannah Owens takes aim in the 5000 meters while Princess Lofton should compete for a medal in the hurdles. Hali Sinegal is in the top three in both the long jump and triple jump while Brooklyn Kelley ranks 2nd in the shot put.

Principia College will look to follow up its 3rd place men's and 8th place women's showings from last year. Sana Udoekong comes into the championship in peak form, setting the program record in the 200 meters last weekend and ranking in the top three of the conference in the 100 meters and 400 meters as well. Hannah Myers will look for medals in the jumping events. Zach Proctor is the top middle distance runner for the men while Nana Koranteng is on a record watch in the triple jump after recording a mark of 46'0.75" earlier this year. Throwers Mark Fisher and Jacob Warrick will look to medal.

Last spring Spalding University finished 9th in the men's championship and tied for 3rd on the women's race. Caleb Stinson again leads the way for the Golden Eagle middle distance runners. The program's throwers will be headed up by Jack Muncaster and Wyatt Frye. On the women's side it will be Roslyn Stull challenging for a medal in the 400 hurdles and Muskan Jamshed in the steeplechase.

Webster University was 2nd on the men's side last year with the women finishing tied for 6th. Oliva Nelson will look to pick up points in the hurdles while Isabelle Llewellyn is a two-time All-Conference thrower. Dylan Patterson will be among those looking for a medal in the 100 and 200 dash while William Howells will compete in the middle distance events. Mark Govero is in search of his first gold in the pole vault, leading the league with a mark of 15'1".

Westminster College will look to improve upon its 8th place men's finish and 5th place women's showing. Dailan Brown is the Blue Jays top men's runner while Moenaisa Sidique will look for medals in the 200 and 400 meters. Amber Dierling and Emma Braby will compete in the throwing events and look for their first medals.
