Greenville Men Extend Title Streak

The Greenville University men's track and field program extended its title run to eight after Saturday's championship performance. The Panthers recorded 293 team points and are the only program to a championship since the conference brought back outdoor track and field as a conference sport in 2017.

Greenville finished the weekend with six individual champions, in addition to winning both relay races, while having a total of 22 individual medalists. The Panthers swept both the long jump and 800 meters. 

Cory Stoll led the way for Greenville with gold in the 200 meters, silver in the long jump, and gold in the 4x100 relay; running in the second spot. Joe Gomez picked up gold in the 800 meters with Gianni Estrada capturing gold in the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters; giving him seven combined golds in those two events during his career. Dylan Collins picked up his first career gold in the high jump while Jordan Peternel recorded gold in the long jump and triple jump.

Webster University finished 2nd with a team score of 149, taking home three gold medals. Dylan Patterson won the 100 meters with a time of 10.71 seconds; becoming the first Gorlok to win the "fastest man" honor. He also picked up bronze in the 200 meters. William Howells won the 1500 meters and Mark Govero won the pole vault with a new championship mark of 15'11". 

Coming in 3rd was Principia College with 108 points. Nana Koranteng picked up a pair of gold medals for the Panthers, winning the 400 meters and triple jump. Zach Proctor finished 3rd in the 5000 meters while Rex Heath won his third consecutive steeplechase title. Marc-Quan Daniels collected bronze in the discus while Mark Fisher was a gold medalist in the hammer, and Jacob Warrick won silver in the javelin. 

Lyon College placed 4th with 71 points. John Paul Morgan continues his assault in throwing events, nearly sweeping all four events this year. Morgan took gold in te discus, shot put, and javelin while finishing 2nd in the hammer. Freshman Emmanuel White earned gold in the 400 hurdles. becoming just the second athlete to earn SLIAC gold in program history. 

There was a tie in 5th with MUW and Spalding University each tallying 59 points.Cortland Earl became the first athlete from MUW to receive gold at the conference championships, winning the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.60 seconds. Noel Kellum picked up a second place finish in the discus. 

Caleb Stinson and Wyatt Frye paced Spalding with their second place finishes. Stinson was second in the 1500 meters while Frye won silver in the javelin. Tobias Rice was 3rd in the steeplechase and was matched by Jack Muncaster in the shot put.

Westminster College followed with 13 points. The Blue Jays were bolstered by their relay teams, which finished 3rd in both the 4x100 and 4x400 while Brendan Reinhard also earned a point in the javelin. 

Blackburn College had its best showing in modern track and field history, finishing with 10 points. Byron McNeil finished 4th in the triple jump while Sam Burrows was 7th in the 1500 meters. 

Eureka College totaled 10 points with Bailey Webster earning bronze in the 10,000 meters with a time of 35:45.00. He also picked up points in the 5000 meters. 

Fontbonne University captured 1 point in its final championship appearance. Jacob Lorimier finished 8th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.98.
