Martinez Leads Panthers to 21st Title

11/1/2025 2:43:53 PM

Alexis Martinez is next in line of champions for Greenville University after taking home the individual title while pushing her team to its 21st SLIAC Women's Cross Country Championship. Martinez becomes the first freshman to win the individual title since 2010 when former Panther Aubree Schreder placed first.

After finding her pace on the first lap, Martinez took control of the 6K race and held a comfortable lead the rest of the way. She completed her first collegiate championship in a time of 23:40, winning by 23-seconds over the next closest finisher. The Panthers had five of the top six runners including the first three to cross the finish line. Norah Atkins placed 2nd with a time of 24:03 while Alivia Clayton finished 3rd at 24:28. Greenville finished with a team score of 17 and have now won four consecutive conference championships.

Principia College finished 2nd with 95 points. Sophia Green paced the team with her 4th place showing, finishing in 24:48. Danielle Vargas, Nina Martinez, and Sarah Erickson all placed in the top 20 of the conference.

For the third straight year Lyon College finished in 3rd place. This year they totaled 104 points with the duo of Brooklyn Collins (12th) and Madison DeRoussel (13th) finished just seven seconds apart.

Westminster College had its best championship showing since 2017. The Blue Jays finished with 114 points, placing them 4th overall. Sadie Brandt led the way with a time of 25:16, finishing 7th individually.

Spalding University was 5th with 121 points. Reganne Piercy led the Golden Eagles with a time of 26:58, finishing 16th overall with her teammate Bessie Kelley crossing just 15-seconds later.

MUW came in 6th place with 139 points, a new program low since joining the SLIAC three years ago. They were led by Hannah Owens, who finished in 8th place with a time of 25:35; setting new program marks for highest finish and best championship time by an Owl runner.

Blackburn College finished 7th with 149 points, the program's lowest team score since 2022. Gracie Jent led the Beavers with a time of 29:31, placing 23rd overall.

Webster University finished 8th with 159 points. Freshman Violet Hill paced the Gorloks with a time of 25:55, placing 9th overall.

Eureka College did not have a full team but was represented by junior Zoe Stoecker. Stoecker finished 31st overall with a time of 31:05.
