Schreiner University has been picked by league coaches to defend their SLIAC Women's Wrestling Championship, receiving five first-place votes and 25 total points.The Mountaineers return all six league champions including last year's Newcomer of the Year Jadine Mata. Mata picked up a SLIAC title at 170 pounds and was one of five Mountaineers (Jaia Ashley, Ileah Brown, Azana King, Odelia Lopez) to qualify for nationals. Ashley had a conference high 30 wins last year, winning the 116 pound title while Brown recorded 15 falls in her 24 wins at 123 pounds. King was 27-15 overall last year at 155 pounds with Lopez finishing with 29 wins at 101 pounds. Symphanie Sampson was a Second Team All-Conference wrestler last year at 191 pounds while Kira Bufford was Third Team All-SLIAC at 123 pounds. Head Coach Tarkyia Mensah loads up her roster with several newcomers including Prestejah Yockeman, Alyssa Escareno, Jania Dunigan, Scarlett Snodgrass, and Natalie Espinoza that will help the team fill in some new weight classes.
Head Coach Eric Biehl and Eureka College were picked 2nd after finishing second at last year's championship. They return five All-Conference performers and collected 16 total points in the poll. McKenzie Cook is back after being named the inaugural SLIAC Women's Wrestler of the Year. Cook picked up 25 wins last year and was the 143 pound champion. Kyley Bair (116 pounds) and Natalie Tobuk (136 pounds) finished second in their respective weight classes at last year's championship and combined for 29 wins. Jaylah Dalton and Audrey Driskell earned Third Team All-SLIAC honors last year and look to build upon last year's performance at the conference championship. New faces to keep an eye on are Sofia Kawano, Tayla Phillips, Jordan Bicknell and transfer Alex Parks.
Lyon College placed 3rd at last year's conference championship and are picked 3rd in the poll with 12 points. They bring back three All-Conference wrestlers including two SLIAC Champions; Rubi Gonzalez and Mikayla Wallace. Gonzalez recorded nine wins last year at 109 pounds while Wallace tied for the team lead with 21 wins at 136 pounds. Sidney Milligan also tallied 21 wins last year and finished 3rd at the NCWA national tournament at 155 pounds. Head Coach Emma de Brum has a young team with just three seniors on the roster and five underclassmen.
Fontbonne University and head coach Chad Cook will roll with Jasmine Gordon in the school's final year. The Griffins tallied 9 points, coming in 4th on the poll. Gordon was a Third Team All-Conference performer last year. She notched 10 wins at 143 pounds with four falls and finished in 3rd at last year's conference championship.
Blackburn College was chosen 5th on the poll while Westminster College was picked 6th. Both teams did not provide any team information.
