MUW brings a commanding lead into the final months of the SLIAC SAAC Challenge after leading the conference once again in service challenge points during the winter sport season. The Owls tacked on another 8151 points during the winter, bringing their yearly total to 34,377.5 points. The most active teams for the Owls this past winter were their softball and volleyball teams, which both totaled over 2000 points.
Westminster College holds in second place with 9,350 points this year. They were active in the fall season with local elementary school visits and assisting with campus events.
Webster University sits in third place with 5,581.5 points. The Gorloks baseball team visited the Dominican Republic as part of a fall trip where they held baseball clinic for local youth and participated in several other community service events.
Blackburn College has accumulated 4510 points this year, including putting up 1,220 points during the winter. The Beavers put together homeless care packages and assisted at various Christmas charities this past fall.
Lyon College has secured 3,395 points so far this year thanks in large part to their soccer programs volunteering at various events.
Principia College totaled the second most points during the winter with 2,135 points; bringing their total to 3030.5 for the academic year. This winter Panther student-athletes held a Toys 4 Tots drive in which they collected over 200 stuffed animals as well as volunteering at campus events.
Eureka College tallied 68.5 points this year through a canned food drive in which they collected 137 canned food items to donate to a local food shelter.
The SAAC Challenge award was established in 2013 to recognize the efforts that SLIAC member schools are involved with in their community and on campus. The competition takes into account community service projects, collections, and donations with the overall winner for the academic year being recognized at the conference's annual awards banquet.
