The Webster University baseball team is back on top of the conference after winning the 2025 championship 13-5 over MUW. The win is the 13th championship in Gorlok program history, extending their conference record, and their first since 2022.
Webster started the scoring first while using small ball. Evan Evola sent a ball through the middle of the field for a two-out single in the bottom of the 1st. After stealing second base he would come in to score on a RBI single by RJ LaRocco.
In the 4th inning the Gorloks would break out the big bats to do their damage. James Theodore singled to start the inning with Evola following with a walk. One out later Nick Schumacher drove the ball over the fence for a three-run home run that put the Gorloks up 4-0.
Webster added two more in the 4th before again using the long ball in the 5th, from Ryan Hartz, to extend their lead to 7-0. Evola scored on a wild pitch, after tripling with one out in the 6th, to make the score 8-0 in favor of the Gorloks.
One night earlier MUW put together a nine run 7th inning in their win over Spalding University and for a moment it looked like the Owls would have 7th inning magic again on Saturday. They quickly loaded the bases to start the top of the 7th with Swayze Rickard driving in their first run on an RBI single. Landon Clark followed with his own single, plating two more and a hit by pitch would bring the score to 8-4. But that would be all the Owls could push across after a line out to the pitcher ended the inning.
Webster answered back in the bottom half of the inning when Andrew Xenakis hit a solo shot to start the inning off. Nick Wrubluski followed with a home run of his own that made the score 11-4. Theodore and Schumacher each drove in a run to open the score to 13-4.
The Owls tacked on a run in the 9th on a Loren Cox single that plated Zach Johnson but Gorlok closer Joel Arsenault set the next two Owls down to wrap up the game.
Arsenault worked 2 1/3 innings to record the save with Eli Rompala-Matthews picking up the win after striking out seven in five innings of work. With the win Webster secures the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Dvision III Baseball Tournament and awaits the announcement of the tournament field on Monday.
