Hummell and Boushard Selected as Post Grad Scholars

4/22/2025 8:41:40 AM

Ruth Hummell and Chase Boushard have been selected as the 2025 SLIAC Post Graduate Scholars by conference Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR). The SLIAC Post Graduate Scholarship is presented to two graduating senior student-athletes each year. Student-Athletes are nominated by their institution’s FAR, must have earned two varsity letters in a sport in which the conference sponsors a championship, and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Scholarship recipients are selected through a vote of the conference FAR and receive a $1000 scholarship that can be used at some point during their first two years of postgraduate studies.

Ruth Hummell, a senior at Principia College, was a member of the Panther women's tennis program from 2021 until the spring of 2024. She holds a 3.94 grade-point average in Global Studies and is a Spanish double major. Hummell has served as President of the Anderson House on the Principia College campus for two years and was part of student government for an additional year. She is also President of both the Phi Alpha Eta Honors Society and Half the Sky (a student-run club focused on global women's issues) at Principia. Hummell has been accepted into both the George Washington University's Elliot School of International Affairs and the Global Studies program at the University of the North Carolina-Chapel Hill and will be making her decision shortly on which path to continue her education.

"Ruth is a self-directed and self-motivated individual. She is a strong researcher, an evidence based writer, and a critical, interdisciplinary thinker. In class she is a consistent contributor who regularly raises the level of discussion with her contributions." - Sally Steindorf, Global Studies Department Chair at Principia College

Chase Boushard is a senior at Webster University and a member of the Gorlok men's soccer and tennis teams. He holds a 4.0 grade-point average in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Health and Medicine and a Minor in Spanish. During his time at Webster Boushard has been involved with First Baptist Maryville Preschool Ministry, working with four-year old children each Sunday, and Camp Independence, a day camp for children with cerebral palsy. He plans on entering medical school and pursuing a career as a Physician.

Hummell and Boushard will be among the award recipients honored at the annual SLIAC end of the year awards banquet on May 21st.
