Lopez Picks Up All-American Honors

For the second consecutive year Schreiner University's Odelia Lopez earned All-America honors, placing 5th at this year's NCWWC National Championship.

Lopez wrestled at 103 pounds and went 5-2 on the weekend including a win in the 5th place match; matching her finish from last year. Lopez opened the weekend with a teach fall and decision before suffering a loss in the quarterfinal round. She responded with a win by fall and decision in the consolation round before falling in the consolation semifinals. In her final match Lopez recorded a 30-8 win by decision. 

Three other SLIAC wrestlers were in action on the weekend as well including to more Mountaineers. Lexys Basurto went 1-2 on the weekend with a 19-13 win by decision in the 124 pound consolation round. Azana King wrestled at 145 pounds and finished 2-2 on the weekend; recording a win by pin fall and a tech fall win. 

McKenzie Cook took the mat as the first women's wrestler from Eureka College to appear at nationals, wrestling at 145 pounds. Cook picked up a pin fall win in the consolation round, finishing the weekend with a 1-2 record.
