The Blackburn College women's volleyball team earned a three-set sweep over the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis (UHSP) on Tuesday night, but the evening was about much more than volleyball. The Beavers hosted their Dig Pink Pink Out game to honor Becky Lowder, who is currently battling stage III breast cancer, and to show support for everyone affected by the disease.

9242The evening brought the Blackburn community together for a cause that extends beyond the court. Fans showed their support through baked goods and raffle baskets, with all proceeds going toward helping someone battling cancer.

Becky and her husband, Vince, are the proud parents of four daughters who grew up playing volleyball, with three continuing their careers at the collegiate level. The Lowder family shares a special connection with Blackburn volleyball, as Becky's daughter, Olivia, and Beaver middle blocker Rylea Black have played volleyball together since third grade.

In addition to being a dedicated volleyball mom, Becky has spent her career as a nurse, caring for others and making a difference in the lives of her patients. Tuesday's event was an opportunity for the volleyball community to return that same love and support as Becky continues her fight.

On the court, Blackburn delivered a strong performance, sweeping UHSP by scores of 25-5, 26-24 and 25-20.

The Beavers came out firing in the opening set, dominating the Eutectics 25-5 to take an early advantage. UHSP responded with a competitive second set, but Blackburn battled through a tight finish to claim a 26-24 victory before closing out the match with a 25-20 win in the third.

Outside hitters Kharma Ghiles and Rean Ward led the Blackburn offense with seven kills apiece, while middle blockers Rylea Black and Maddie Sidwell each added six kills. 9243

Setter Kenadee Frey recorded a double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs, helping guide the Beavers' offense throughout the match. Ward and Elexus Frey also made key defensive contributions, finishing with 11 digs each.

While the Beavers celebrated a victory on the court, the night's greatest impact came from the support shown for Becky and others facing cancer. The Dig Pink event served as a reminder that the volleyball community is more than a team or a game. It is a family that comes together to support one another through life's toughest challenges.
