In this week's Eye on the SLIAC we sit down with Westminster College's Olivia Gibson. Gibson is on a tear with goals in five consecutive games including a pair of hat tricks. She talks about coming to play in America and how team success leads to her scoring.

HOTTEST FOOT IN THE LEAGUE
Well, soccer has been a passion for me, and I'm very competitive. I don't like losing, but we did start off rough, in preseason, but it definitely built us together as a team, got us closer and made us want to edge towards getting results as a team and myself, I've always, since a little kid, had a goal to score at least one goal a game. If it happens, it happens. But if not, it's about just getting the team involved. And to me, mainly it's about winning games and showing up. And I mean, the goals are just a bonus.

REMEMBERING HER FIRST COLLEGIATE HAT TRICK
It was amazing. I didn't know what was going to happen. So I kind of, like settled on the two. It was against Greenville. And it was the last I think, 14 seconds of the game. The ball came over, came into me, and I saw I hit the back of net. And no, it really was. Sports is all about like that feeling you get of scoring, of winning. You go through ups and downs, of losing as well. Like it's not always a high. There's lows as well, but it was amazing. They're not in top scoring. I have to agree Lee. It's it's amazing and it's a great achievement together for the team as well. Not just personally. And it's it's all about winning games as a team.

THE BLUE JAYS SEASON
I think our team, amazing bunch of girls being the only international student as well. Like they've welcomed me in with open arms and I will forever be grateful for it. They're a great bunch. I think we are a whole as a team. Like there's no individuals. It's we go out and we perform as a team. And the coaches as well are amazing. They're always pushing us for high standards. I know we're on a winning streak, but that doesn't mean the hard work has to stop. It's all about the next game. And keep going and keep getting results.

A WEEK OFF
We're still going to be working hard. You know, it's not just about how you perform on the field, it's what you do off the field as well. So I think it's about recovering because we did have a good few games recently. So it's about recovery, resting but not not getting lazy. It's all about always staying active, like going on walks and stuff like that, you know, to keep your body moving. And it's mainly not getting lazy and keep our eye on the prize at the moment.

FROM IRELAND TO FULTON
I was in two years ago. I was in a junior college in Kansas City. And then I went home for family reasons, so. But I've always America has always been something on my bucket list to go to. Like, it's always inspired me as a kid to come here and play soccer and experience the life, the different culture and to know it's an amazing place and it's way bigger than Ireland, so I love that. I'm learning new things every day and American football, it's like it's true what they say. Like America is the place for dreams. I don't think I was getting that in Ireland. Whereas, like, talent is really highly recognized in America rather than it is in Ireland. But I think America is amazing and I'm like a little kid on Christmas, really, when I come, when I come here, well.

THE LOVE OF SOCCER
Soccer is is my life like my my life revolves around it. My mom especially, she. I wouldn't be where I am today without her. She. Since a little kid brought me all around the country of Ireland to games. She's my number one supporter. Soccer is. It just gives me a feeling that nothing else can give me. I just have great passion for it. I mean, it's not always, like I said, days. It can affect you mentally as well. It is a tough sport, but I absolutely adore it. And I love the team. Like your team becomes your second family and it's about winning together and losing together. But it's always about being a team, and I think it's just a great community for people to get involved and and be involved in sports.
