Huntingdon Returns to SLIAC as Wrestling Affiliate 4/15/2025 8:38:35 AM The SLIAC is pleased to announce the addition of Huntingdon College as its fourth affiliate member for men's and women's wrestling. With the addition of Huntingdon the conference grows to eight men's and seven women's wrestling programs that will compete for a conference championship. "The SLIAC is extremely pleased and honored to have the men's and women's wrestling programs of Huntingdon College become affiliate members of the SLIAC," said SLIAC Commissioner Dr. Dick Kasier. "I want to thank Huntingdon Athletic Director Eric Levanda for having the faith in the SLIAC to provide the Huntingdon student-athletes with a quality championship experience. Huntingdon's inclusion will only continue to grow and solidify the quality of the wrestling and the overall championships within the conference." Huntingdon College Athletic Director continues, "This is a tremendous opportunity for both our men's and women's wrestling programs. Our men's team has been operating as an independent since its first season. I would like to thank the long standing commissioner of the SLIAC, Dr. Dick Kaiser, as well as the leadership of the conference for their support in welcoming our two programs." Huntingdon is located in Montgomery, Alabama with an enrollment of 893 students. The Hawks are a Division III institution and full-time member of the Collegiate Conference of the South. The school added men's wrestling in 2014 and women's wrestling in 2022. They were previously an affiliate member of the SLIAC for the 2008 football season. They are the third affiliate member to join the conference in wrestling, following the University of the Ozarks and Schreiner University. Affiliate members are not required to schedule matches against core members during the regular season but are eligible to compete at the SLIAC Men's and Women's Wrestling championships each season. "I am very excited for our team to be joining the SLIAC Conference next season," said Huntingdon Women's Wrestling Head Coach Lillian Humphries. "I believe this will be a great opportunity for our women to test their skills against other NCAA DIII institutions with the hopes of bringing home some conference championships." Matt Oliver, Director of Wrestling at Huntingdon said, "We are super excited for the opportunity to compete within a conference. In preparation for qualifying for the NCAA's, the SLIAC will be a great environment for us to test our wrestling up against some of the teams within our Region." This past year was the second season the SLIAC has sponsored a men's and women's wrestling championship. Seven wrestlers from the SLIAC qualified for nationals this past year with two earning All-America status. SLIAC members currently sponsoring men's and women's wrestling programs are Blackburn College, Eureka College, Lyon College, Westminster College as well as affiliate members the University of the Ozarks, Schreiner University, McMurry University, and Huntingdon College.
