Three men's wrestlers from the SLIAC have qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships after their performances at this weekend's regional. In just the second year of sponsoring wrestling, the SLIAC has increased its national qualifiers from two last year to three this season, with three different programs sending a representative.
Schreiner University's Austin Cooley, the SLIAC Wrestler of the Meet at the conference championships, placed 2nd at 285 pounds. He started the weekend with a fall and then won his next two matches before losing 9-6 by decision in the first-place match.
Demetri Teddlie, from the University of the Ozarks, becomes the fifth Eagle from the program to qualify for nationals. Teddlie opened up with wins in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds before falling in the 157 pounds first-place match.
Austen Wetzel, from Westminster College, qualified at 184 pounds. The sophomore picked up a win by fall in his first match of the weekend. After losing in the quarterfinal round he recorded back-to-back wins by pinfall and a sudden victory win in the consolation semifinals. Wetzel then secured his spot with a win in by decision in the 3rd place match.
The 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Championships will be held in Providence, Rhode Island from March 14-15.
