Schreiner University takes home both SLIAC Wrestler of the Year awards with Austin Cooley and Odelia Lopez being selected by league coaches as the inaugural winners.
Austin Cooley, a junior, finished the year with a 29-4 overall record, compiling a conference record .879 winning percentage this season. He recorded 14 pin falls and won three titles, including the SLIAC 285 pound championship. Cooley closed out the season by finishing 5th at the NCAA Division III Championships, becoming the first All-America men's wrestler in program history.
Odelia Lopez, a senior, became a two-time All-American after placing 5th at this year's NCWWC National Championship. Wrestling at 103 pounds, Lopez put together a 33-8 overall record, setting the conference record for wins in a season. She won three titles this season including the 103 pound SLIAC Championship for the second straight year.
This is the first year the coaches have included the full season in selecting the conference wrestler of the year after previously awarding the honor after the conference championships.
