Saturday saw the end of one SLIAC record but also the breaking of another. Both records were built around the Spalding University defense. Spalding had entered the game with 12 consecutive shutouts, tying the conference record originally set by Fontbonne University in 2022. The last time the Golden Eagles had allowed a goal was on September 6 against Hanover.
However the shutout streak ended when Greenville University found the back of the net twice in a 2-0 win. The Panthers scored in the 60th minute and followed with another tally just 41-seconds later.
Spalding goalkeeper Sophie Young-Neawedde who had been in net for each of the previous 12 shutouts, made one save in the game. The goal in the 60th minute ended her consecutive scoreless minute streak at 1154:12, setting a new conference record. She surpassed the previous mark of 1141:38 set by Mary Beers of Fontbonne in the 2022 season.
