Milsteadt Headlines Awards

lan Milsteadt headlines this year's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball All-Conference team. The senior guard was named the SLIAC Player of the Year, joining four other Red Devils in program history to receive the honor. Milsteadt led the conference in scoring during the regular season and upped his prowess to 19.5 points per game during conference play. He ranked in the top ten in the league in three-point percentage (.479) and free-throw percentage (.846) while also grabbing 6.8 rebounds per game. Milsteadt also finished with 21 steals, placing him 10th in the conference, and 11 blocked shots, ranking him 4th. He is the first Red Devil to win the award since Shea Feehan in 2017-18.

The league's Defensive Player of the Year is Anthony Jones, from Fontbonne University. Jones, a senior guard, was a key contributor to his team's defense; helping them reduce their opponents' scoring average by nearly seven points per game from last season. Jones finished with 28 steals in conference play, ranking him 4th; totaling 45 steals and 12 blocks for the full year. He also averaged 5.1 rebounds per game from his guard spot.

The SLIAC Newcomer of the Year goes to Webster University forward Karl Moore Jr. The freshman made an immediate impact on the team, starting 23 of his team's 25 games this season and averaging 10.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. He improved his play as the Gorloks entered conference games, upping those numbers to 10.9 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Moore Jr. shot 56-percent from the field and lead the league in blocked shots while also being the only player in the league to average in double figures in both scoring and rebounding and recorded 10 double-doubles this season.

Kevin Wingert is the 2022 SLIAC 6th Man of the Year. The junior guard played an important role for Principia College, playing over 25-minutes per game despite starting just 4 conference games. He averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game during conference play, shooting 40-percent from the field and adding 34 assists. He ranked in the top ten in the league in three-point percentage, shooting at a 35-percent clip.

The SLIAC Coach of the Year is Lance Thornhill, head coach of Fontbonne University. Thornhill has guided the Griffins to a 17-6 record this season, going 12-2 against conference opponents to claim the regular-season title. It marks just the 4th time in program history they have won a regular-season championship while this year's outright title is its first since 1994-95. The team's 17 wins are their most since 2008-09 and this is his first Coach of the Year award.

This year's SLIAC Team Sportsmanship award goes to Webster University. The Gorloks were chosen to have best exemplified the conference's ideals of sportsmanship this season and take home their third consecutive sportsmanship award.
