Westminster's Erica Burney broke the season RBI record in Saturday's split with MacMurray College. She now has 32 RBIs with 14 games left on the schedule. The Westminster Blue Jays dropped game one, 4-3, but they flipped the score in game two to win, 4-3. They are 10-13 on the season with a 3-3 conference record.
MacMurray scored two runs in the bottom of the first to start the game with a 2-0 lead, and they added two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-0 lead heading into the sixth inning.
The Blue Jays put up three runs in the sixth to bring the game to 4-3. Burney led-off with a double, and senior Shannon Perrigo came up and cracked a homer to put up two runs. With two outs and freshman Caty Barrett on base with a single, junior Brittany Hodge was at the plate. She reached on an error by MacMurray's second baseman, putting a runner on first and second. Barrett stole third, and on the next play, Hodge went to steal second and was thrown out, but not before Barrett scored.
In the top of the seventh, the Blue Jays had bases loaded with two outs, but a pop up ended the game with a 4-3 loss.
Burney went 3-for-4 from the plate with one run scored. Perrigo went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
Hahn (4-5) was credited with the loss in the circle. She pitched the complete game and struck out 10 batters.
The Blue Jays started game two with singles from sophomore Leah Holthaus and senior Anne Baker. Holthaus moved to third on a passed ball, and was brought in with Burney's RBI single.
In the bottom of the first, MacMurray scored three runs off a home run, taking a 3-1 lead.
The Blue Jays were unable to score again until the fifth inning as Burney hit a RBI single to bring in Baker. They added two more runs in the sixth inning to take the 4-3 lead. Barrett scored a run and Holthaus had a RBI sacrifice bunt to score Hodge.
The Blue Jay defense held MacMurray to just two runners on base throughout the sixth and seventh innings, ending the game with a 4-3 win.
The Blue Jays out-hit MacMurray 11-2. Baker went 4-for-4 from the plate with one run scored. Burney went 3-for-4 with two RBI, breaking the season RBI record.
Perrigo (6-5) grabbed the complete game win in the circle. She threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.
The Blue Jays continue their conference schedule with a home doubleheader versus Fontbonne University on Wednesday, April 13, starting at 5:00 pm.
