Year in Review - RECORD BOOK
The 2024-25 SLIAC Women's Basketball season will be remembered for its historic final month. Beginning with the February 20th game between Westminster College and Principia College. That night Blue Jay senior guard Annette Ramirez scored point number 1,961 in her career at the 8:13 mark of the second quarter; becoming the SLIAC all-time leading scorer.
While the Blue Jays came out on top that night it was Principia getting revenge just over a week later when they capped off the biggest run in tournament history to win the program's first-ever championship. The Panthers, who did field a team just four years ago, became the first #4 seed in tournament history to win a championship. They did so by knocking off the top two seeds and co-regular season champions Westminster College and Webster University. The Panthers won 69-67 on a buzzer-beater, topping the Gorloks for the first time since 2015.
Ramirez would collect her third SLIAC Player of the Year award, becoming just the second player in conference history to achieve the feat. She finished her career with 2,030 points and in addition to being the conference's all-time leading scorer would finish tops in field goals made, 7th in three-point field goals, and 3rd in free throws. She would go on to be named All-Region along with Webster forward Bethany Lancaster.
Zaneiya Batiste, a forward for Spalding University, attached the boards with ferocity all season long. She set a new conference record with 405 rebounds in a season, averaging 15.6 per game and ranking nationally. Batiste also grabbed 28 rebounds in a game, the second most in conference history.
Principia's Lamiya Terrell proved to be one of the league's top defenders, twice recording 11 steals; matching the conference record in a single game. Fontbonne University's do it all guard Ja'mise Bailey put up 21.5 points per game during the year, the 10th best mark in conference history. Lyon College's Dalye Hambelton averaged 5.2 assists per game, good for 9th best in conference history, while teammate Savanna Lopez finished with 85 blocks, also good for 9th best.
