Panthers Take Down #14 WashU

Two St. Louis area volleyball powerhouses met on Wednesday night for one final non-conference meeting before postseason play. Greenville University, who plays in the SLIAC, hosted #14 Washington University-St. Louis, member of the UAA, and it was the home Panthers picking up the 3-2 win. 

The win is the first since for Greenville since joining the SLIAC and NCAA Division III in 1995. The Bears were 20-0 against the Panthers since and had defeated Greenville 3-0 earlier this season on September 13 in St. Louis, Mo.

But on Thursday night it as Greenville rebounding from an opening set loss to win the match 16-25, 28-26, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, and 15-8. Greenville hit .154 in the match while recording six aces. Kennedy Legendre led the way with 19 kills with Abby Grohmann finishing with 16 and Elaina Evers adding 11.

The Panthers net defense shined, recording 14 team blocks, with Lainey Hicks (7) and Mia DeJesus (6) leading the way. Emily Ruppert totaled 16 digs while Emma Ratermann finished with 50 assists. 

Greenville is now 20-10 overall and returns to action this Saturday with a pair of conference matches to close out the regular season. Prior to joining the SLIAC and NCAA Division III Greenville last defeated WashU on October 4, 1984.
