SLIAC Players of the Week - April 11

This week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week are: Collin Brinker, from Westminster College; Erica Burney, from Westminster College; Paige Cooley, from Principia College; Anna Grobelny, from Webster University; Julian Kitchingman, from Principia College; Jessie Kuykendall, from Westminster College; Hunter Mehring, from Principia College; Shannon Perrigo, from Westminster College; Brandon Price, from Spalding University; and Bret Robertson, from Westminster College.


SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
HUNTER MEHRING - PRINCIPIA COLLEGE

Hunter Mehring, a junior from Chesterfield, Mo., is this week's award winner after hitting .529 and driving in nine while helping the Panthers to three conference wins. Mehring hit three home runs on the week including two in a 15-13 win over Westminster, his team's first conference win of the season. Mehring had a hit in all five games on the week with a three hit outing in a win over Blackburn. Mehring also drew six walks and did not strike out, finishing with a .625 on-base percentage and 1.118 slugging percentage for the week. Mehring finished 9-for-17 at the plate with eight runs scored.


SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
COLLIN BRINKER - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Collin Brinker, a senior from Auxvasse, Mo., is this week's SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Brinker picked up a complete game shutout win over Webster University on Saturday. He worked nine scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while walking none and striking out seven. Brinker faced just 28 hitters in the game, one over the minimum, while picking up his fourth win of the season.

 



SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
ERICA BURNEY - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Erica Burney, a junior from Ste. Genevieve, Mo., had a record setting performance last week in earning Player of the Week honors. Burney set a new school record for single season runs batted in. She hit .733 over four games, driving in seven and hitting two home runs. Burney was 11-for-15 at the plate, with three three hit games. She finished the week with a 1.267 slugging percentage, with two long balls and two doubles. Burney now has 34 RBI on the season, breaking the record in game two of a double header against MacMurray College.


SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
SHANNON PERRIGO - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Shannon Perrigo, a senior from Tebbetts, Mo., recorded a pair of conference wins for Westminster last week. She notched two complete games including a two-hitter over MacMurray. Perrigo began the week with a win in game two of a double header against Webster, going seven innings and allowing one earned run while striking out eight. She closed out the week with seven innings of work in a win over MacMurray, allowing just two hits while striking out seven. On the week Perrigo finished with a 2.00 earned-run average and 15 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched, allowing 11 hits total.


SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JULIAN KITCHINGMAN - PRINCIPIA COLLEGE

Julian Kitchingman is the SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week after picking up four wins last week. He notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2 singles over Fontbonne and followed with a win in a 6-4, 7-5 battle against Westminster. Kitchingman added two wins at #2 doubles, with Aaron Switzer, winning 8-5 and 8-0.

 


SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PAIGE COOLEY - PRINCIPIA COLLEGE

Paige Cooley picks up her second straight SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week award after going undefeated in six matches last week. Cooley, a freshman from Traverse City, Mich., rolled to three wins at #1 singles, blanking her opponent in five of six sets on the week. In fact Cooley had three sets where she did not even drop a point. Cooley added three more wins at #1 doubles with her teammate Caitlin Carney.



SLIAC MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
BRET ROBERTSON - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Bret Robertson, a junior from California, Mo., is the SLIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Robertson had a stand out performance at the Central Methodist Invite, competing in the Javelin Throw. Robertson placed first in the event with a distance of 170'8". That mark is the longest distance by a SLIAC competitor in the javelin this season.

 


 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
BRANDON PRICE - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Brandon Price took third place in the 10,000 meter run at the Bellarmine Invitational, competing against a tough field. Price completed the race in a time of 32:33.82, the best time this season by a SLIAC performer and setting a new school record.

 


SLIAC WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
ANNA GROBELNY- WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Anna Grobelny, a freshman from Fenton, Mo., picks up SLIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors. Grobelny competed in two events at the SLU Invitational, the long jump and triple jump. Grobelny placed fifth int he triple jump with a distance of 34'0", just off the school record, and took eighth in the long jump with a mark of 15'8". Both marks are a season high for Grobelny.

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
JESSIE KUYKENDALL- WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Jessie Kuykendall, a freshman from Warsaw, Mo., took first place in the 5000 meter run at the Central Methodist Invite over the weekend. Kuykendall completed the race in a time of 19:33.76, third fastest in the SLIAC this season.

  • Jack Bensinger, Webster University (Baseball) Bensinger worked seven innings of two hit ball while picking up a 1-0 win over Westminster.
  • Tyler Durand, Blackburn College (Baseball) Durand was 8-for-13 with six RBI in a three game series against Principia.
  • Juan Granizo, Webster University (Tennis) Granizo added five wins last week, including three wins at #1 singles.
  • Deion Hughes, Westminster College (Baseball) Hughes hit .526 on the week, including a 4-for-5 game against Principia in which he added three RBI.
  • Meghan Illig, Webster University (Track and Field) Illig set a school record in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 16.19 and placing fifth at the SLU Invite.
  • Jessica Klutts, Westminster College (Tennis) Klutts recorded four wins for the Blue Jays, picking up two wins at #2 singles and two more at #1 doubles.
  • Lexi Litwiller, Eureka College (Softball) Litwiller went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a win over Spalding in game one of a double header.
  • Jarrett Luckett, Blackburn College (Baseball) Luckett tallied 10 strikeouts in a win over Principia.
  • Samantah McIlwain, Iowa Wesleyan University (Softball) McIlwain recorded 13 strikeouts in a five inning win over Robert Morris-Springfield.
  • Jake Milosch, Webster University (Baseball) Milosch went 2-for-3 with four runs batted in duruing a win over Westminster.
  • Kyle Olliges, Spalding University (Baseball) Olliges recorded 11 strikeouts in a nine inning win over MacMurray.
  • Nate Richards, Principia College (Track and Field) Ricahrds took first in the 5K at the SLU Invitational, finishing in 15:13.76.
  • Ryan Robbins, Webster University (Track and Field) Robbins set a new school record in the javelin, with a mark of 158'2".
  • Glenn Teubner, Westminster College (Track and Field) Teubner placed first in the 5000 meter run at the CMU Invite, finishing with a time of 16:16.51.
  • Ray Vogel, Eureka College (Baseball) Vogel went 6-for-10 with five RBI in a pair of games.
